Recertification for IBCLC is required every five years. Now, IBCLCs can choose to recertify in one of two ways:

What is a recertification?

IBCLC recertification is the process all IBCLCs must complete every 5 years to maintain their credential.

IBCLC Recertification Requirements

Recertifying by CERPs

1. Take the CE Self-Assessment emailed to all IBCLCs by IBLCE (the certifying organization).
2. Using your CE Assessment score, complete the required 75 CERPs including Basic Life Support Education and 2 hours on the WHO Code.
3. Complete 250 hours of clinical practice.
4. In your recertification year, you must apply to IBCLE for recertification by September 30.

Recertifying by Exam

1. Complete a Basic Life Support course and 2 hours of WHO Code education.
2. Complete 250 Hours of clinical practice.
3. Apply for the IBCLC exam.
4. Take the IBCLC exam and receive a passing score.
