Take your passion for lactation and turn it into practicing lactation care in your profession and community! This 50 hour professional lactation training provides you with the foundations to get started: the clinical and communication skills needed to help nursing families. It includes Motivational Interviewing, how to best communicate with our clients for effective interactions.

⬇️ Here's what this course is all about ⬇️
This virtual, self-study course consists of half of the Detailed Content Outline that dictates the skills needed to become an IBCLC. It can serve as a stand-alone credential, part of the required 95 hours of lactation education needed to become an IBCLC or continuing lactation education.

This course uses an online learning system, Thinkific, and LIVE Zoom Meetings. The participants will be covering 13 Sections of the detailed content outline and one assignment. Short quizzes follow each section. A final evaluation will finish this training.

The goal of the course is to be able to take the theoretical clinical knowledge and be able to apply these skills to the actual work with families.

This course has been approved for 50 L-CERPs and 50 Nursing Contact Hours including 5 hours of communication skills.

Do you want to unlock the secrets of Making More Milk?

Starting January 2025, Barbara D. Robertson is joined by Lisa Marasco, one of the authors of the book, to break things down for you!

This book group is for professionals and families. All you need is to be a person who wants to know more about milk supply. When you register, you will get an invitation to join Thinkific, an easy-to-use, online learning program. You will see the required reading listed for each of the seven sessions. This group will consist of five live and 2 recorded 2-hour Zoom meetings where the important parts of the assigned chapters will be reviewed. After the discussion, there will be 30 minutes to answer your questions, and then the last 30 minutes will be spent in break-out rooms discussing our clinical questions. You do not need to attend all of the live meetings. These meetings will be recorded and posted on our Thinkific Course for you.

Worries about foremilk and hindmilk are very common! But grounded in research, there is little to worry about. Here’s why.

This is where a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. This has never been so true as in the ongoing debate about foremilk and hindmilk and their impact on breastfeeding. The misunderstandings around these concepts have caused anxiety, upset, and even led to breastfeeding problems and premature weaning.

What really matters. Research indicates that there is no reason to worry about foremilk and hindmilk or to coax a baby to feed longer. As long as a baby is breastfeeding effectively and the mother does not cut feedings short, baby will receive about the same amount of milk fat over the course of a day no matter what the breastfeeding pattern (Kent, 2007). This is because the baby who breastfeeds more often consumes foremilk higher in fat than the baby who breastfeeds less often. So in the end it all evens out.

What’s most important to a baby’s weight gain and growth is the total volume of milk consumed every 24 hours. On average, babies consume about 750 mL of milk per day (Kent et al., 2006). As far as growth is concerned, it doesn’t matter if a baby takes 30 mL every hour or 95 mL every three hours, as long as he receives enough milk overall (Mohrbacher, 2020). In fact, researchers have found that whether babies practice the frequent feedings of traditional cultures or the longer intervals common in the West, they take about the same amount of milk each day (Hartmann, 2007) and get about the same amount of milk fat. Let’s simplify breastfeeding for the mothers we help and once and for all cross foremilk and hindmilk off our “worry lists.” 👏👏
