In 2019, Barbara Robertson did a survey on nipple

In 2019, Barbara Robertson did a survey on nipple shields and had 4500 families and 500+ professionals fill it out! What did we learn? Some of the things that were found were surprising! One of the most surprising findings was that more than 10% of families in our 2019 nipple shield survey used a shield for over a year! No professionals thought families were using them for this long.

Nipple shields can absolutely save breastfeeding relationships — but without clear standards, families are often left without the guidance they deserve. Our survey of 4,500 families + 500 professionals showed big gaps in when shields are given, how they’re fitted, and the follow-up families receive.

The takeaway?
Nipple shields can be an amazing transitional too as long as families get good support and a clear plan.
